How to find the best tutor for your child

Are you trying to find the right kind of help for your child? Are you confused about what level and topic they need help with (Was it GCSE or iGCSE? What are Teacher Assessments?!)?

If you're stuck with a multitude of profiles on different websites, facebook groups full of recommendations and signing up to three platforms just to receive 5 spam emails and no legitimate help, we've got you covered.

Introducing Scoodle: the one stop shop for high quality learning. Whether thats bespoke help with one of our trustworthy tutors, videos and resources that work perfectly alongside schooling, or even getting a quick answer to a one off question on our Q&A page for free.

In the world of tuition and academic help, there's always a lot of options and it can be overwhelming. So here's a step by step guide for you to find exactly what you're looking for on Scoodle.

Step by step guide:

First things first, start with a subject search to see which tutors teach the subject you're interested in. To make sure you find relevant tutors for you, you can also search by level of study! We really recommend this as it makes finding the right tutor seamless.

For example, say I'm looking for a Maths GCSE tutor, I'll start with the subject and then refine my search by using the Level filter.

Filters help you find the best tutor, fast.

Add some filters to find your perfect fit

You'll notice that there are more filters next to the Subject and Level. You can choose your preferred location (online or in person), price limit, and preferred lesson times in availability.

After choosing your ideal combination, you'll be left with a selection of tutors perfect for you! Now you can scroll through the list and select a tutor that fits your needs.

Take a closer look

Each tutor profile on the list has additional information you can use to narrow down your search.

For example, you can see the green tick right next to Emi's profile picture. This shows she is a Verified tutor, meaning her identity and address documents have been verified by our payments provider Stripe.

You can also see some numbers on the right hand side: her Tutor Score and Students Helped metrics.

The Tutor Score tracks which tutors are great at teaching, helpful and trustworthy, the higher the score the better. To increase their score, tutors do things like verifying their profile, answering questions on the Q&A page, booking lessons and uploading videos and resources.

Students Helped shows how much impact a tutor has had by showing how many students they've reached. When a student watches your video or reads your answer, that’s 1 more student you’ve helped.

You can also see that Emi has updated her profile to show she takes Online Lessons in light of recent events. Most tutors on Scoodle, except maybe ABA tutors, have this. If in doubt you can send them a message to confirm.

Each tutor can add a short bio, letting you know a bit more about them. If you see something you like here, you can click on the card to read more on their profile!

Have a gander round their profile

Once you're looking at a tutor's profile, you'll be able to learn more about them as people. From educational history, a longer bio section, availability and the subjects they teach.

For example, on Emi's profile we can see she's currently a Medicine student at the University of Nottingham, she teaches maths, biology, chemistry, study skills and how to apply to Medicine.

On a tutor profile you can also see the questions they've answered and any videos or resources they have uploaded.

TOP TIP: Have a look at the content tutors have uploaded! You can find these in tabs next to where it says Profile" and they can be Q&A, Video Lessons or Resources. These are great examples of their teaching style and how they work, which are ideal to make sure they'd be the right fit for you.

Emi has a Q&A tab
Paja has some Video Lessons on her profile!

Connect with tutors

After you've gone through all of those steps the last thing to do is to message the tutor you're interested in.

This is the part where you can let them know exactly what you're looking for, such as the hours per week you'd like or the topic you're keen on mastering or any other preferences you might have.

TOP TIP: Make sure to message any tutors you're interested in before booking a lesson! This ensures you're both on the same page and that you book at a time that suits both of you.

Send a secure message to the tutors you like.

Finally, make a booking!

Once you've confirmed the detail with the tutor, you can book with them directly through your chat by clicking Book Lesson. This will take you through a form where you decide on the date, time, location and length of the lesson, and then send it to the tutor to accept. Once that's done, all you've got to do is make sure your child turn's up to the lesson on time!

TOP TIP: If you need to update your booking, you can change or cancel it through the Scoodle app. Just head to the Lessons tab > Booked Lessons > find the relevant tutor and click on "See all lessons" > select Manage Bookings to adjust date, time or cancel before the lesson takes place. Make sure to confirm with your tutor via messages!

And just like that...

You should have a quality tutor booked for your child! 🥳
