Strengths and weaknesses of rubrics as assessment tool

Stenghts: -Measure learning outcomes based on clear metrics -Ensures all evaluators use the same criteria -It can be very comprehensive Weaknesses: -Unflexible -If evaluating transferable skills, it might be dependant on the evaluator's judgement -If not well designed, it might miss important aspects to evaluate of the student

Given equation for the circle to be X²+Y²=25 find the contact points given the slope of tangent to be ¾

So we have our equation x^2 +y^2 =25. We want to find the points of intersection with tangents of slope 3/4. These will be given by lines of the equation: y=3/4 x + C. We first need to find possible values of C. As a tangent will only intersect with the circle at 1 point, when we substitute the equation of our tangent into that of our circle we know the discriminant must equal 0. Substituting in w... more

What advice would you have for someone looking to apply for post-graduate study several years after completing their undergrad?

Hi there, I would certainly take a look at different courses and also different universities as many different universities have a different curriculum/agenda when it comes to what is included in their course content. I'd also make sure your priorities are in order before you take on a post-graduate course. While they are shorter than the usual undergrad, it can often be more intense and more rea... more

Got a D in an economics mock. This is going to be used to make my predicted grade. I got AA in my other subjects. I don’t know what to do, because i know my predicted is going to be low. Will I need to take a gap year?

Hey Anita, I hope this finds you well. Mock exams are a part of a holistic whole when teachers are formulating your predicted grades. If you feel that your mock grades are not reflective of what you are capable of, as are the cases in mocks more often than not, I would encourage you to have a conversation with your teachers. Be proactive in showing that you are seeking to improve and will be abl... more

Transfer of learning among learner

Transfer of learning occurs when the student is motivated by the topic, motivated to learn, has previous knowledge on the subject, and knows how to connect new information to existing information. The learner must then be able to retrieve this information and apply it to new learning. A lot of breaks can happen in this chain, but if we model this formula in our teaching and make it a conscious pro... more

Autonomy in health care

Patient autonomy: The right of patients to make decisions about their medical care without their health care provider trying to influence the decision. Patient autonomy does allow for health care providers to educate the patient but does not allow the health care provider to make the decision for the patient.

I am searching for undergraduate degrees to complete that I would enjoy but also find useful. I am looking for something related to Statistics, Business and Computing/Computer science or even a combination of at least 2 of these subjects. Any ideas?

A good option would be a data science related degree, especially one with a combination of machine learning. These areas are increasingly in demand and you will be well primed for employment. Otherwise maths related degrees, finance degrees, or software engineering degrees, will have elements of everything you are looking for and you will have a lot of career options to go into
