Hi Jane, Sexual reproduction contributes to variety through the recombination and crossing over of chromosomes from each parent to make a unique set of chromosomes in the offspring. As asexual reproduction produces offspring that are identical to the parent there is effectively no genetic variation here and the offspring are clones of the parents. In this case the only variation you would see from parent to offspring would be cause by environmental factors. If you would like more info on recombination or crossing over please leave a comment.
