What should you expect when you study computer science at university?
Let me begin by saying Computer Science is a great degree and is becoming evermore in the spotlight with the advent of AI, Machine Learning and Blockchain Technology. It really is a very exiting place to be. To answer your question, it really depends where you study. Computer Science is a vast subject and there are many areas one can branch into. As well as the aforementioned, there are other areas such as cryptography, software engineering, robotics and the list goes on. Some universities may choose to focus more in one area, others not. Some may choose to focus on teaching the underlying theoretical aspects, others may focus on the practical. I studied CS at King’s College London. A module titled Operating Systems and Concurrency was taught purely from a theoretical perspective, we never wrote a single line of code! Another module consisted of a group project where we worked as a team to engineer an autonomous robot control system. It was awesome! I also really enjoyed learning about cryptography. I suppose that’s the best thing about CS. There are more areas within and some you may like, others not. But what you achieve and learn by the end of it is enough to work on some awesome technical projects and build the future. If you have any more questions about CS, feel free to ask 😀
