Christian beliefs come from the Bible and the concept of sin and its consequences are also outlined there. Sin is the name for acts which are in rebellion to God's instructions. The first example of sin is in the first book of the Bible (which is actually a collection of 66 books, some historical accounts, some poetry, some prophecy and some letters), called Genesis. Adam and Eve are told they can eat from any tree in the Garden of Eden except the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. They disobey and are put out of the garden as a result. The book of 1 John 5, verse 17 says that all unrighteousness is sin. The book of James 1, verses 14 and 15, says that every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust has conceived, it brings forth sin, and sin, when it is completed, brings forth death.
