Hi The supernatural is used to drive the plot forward, as the narrative is split between the three ghosts. Additionally, the ghosts' apparitions are used to both show Scrooge why he should change his ways, but also to make points and the poor treatment of children in the time. This is particularly prevalent in the moment when scrooge discovers his grave and the young boy and girl appear before it.
