Asked by Emmi

What are some examples of power later on in the book (Animal Farm by George Orwell)?

Hi Emmi, power is certainly an important theme in the novel. You could look at this through Mr Jones' harsh treatment of the animals through physical abuse and the animals resistance to this. Maybe look at the pig's language in such a way they exert control over the other animals. Look at the repercussions of power and how excessive power can lead to a character's downfall. From a contextual perspective, examine the novel through a Marxist lens. In brief, Marxism suggests there are structures in place in society to keep people in their 'position' and follow the rules. Although even if you gather a lot of theory on this, make sure to keep it concise and tied to be question. Hope this is helpful.
