I did quite a few essays on the film during my A level. Often key scenes to talk about is the difference on how the Banlieue is portrayed compared to Paris, the three boys live in the definition of a place excluded from the higher, more sophisticated society of Paris. Kassovitz seems to show this through filming techniques. Although the film is in black and white, when they are in Paris, there it seems to be lighter and more vibrant, in comparison to the banlieue, darker, shunned from society. Another example is in the beginning of the film, when the reporter tries to interview them in a park. Here you can look at two key factors: The first is how the park is made to look like they are in a zoo, behind bars from normal society; secondly the way they react to the reporter in an unnecessary and aggravated way, they are not integrated into society, therefore do not know how to act around people.
Hi, a key scene you could talk about is when the 3 main characters are in the museum and how they don’t know how to interact with the women and others there. This shows social exclusion as they haven’t been integrated or shown how to behave appropriately.
