How does assessment inform accountability and quality processes in schools?
Accountability for schools is judge on two main things, attainment 8 and progress 8. Attainment 8 is the average level a student gets from their best 8 results. Progress 8 is the overall level gained using Maths and English; science, language or humanities levels, and 3 levels from other subjects. The overall level is compared to the students fine point target level. For example, a student with an overall level of 7 and a target of 7 will have a progress 8 of 0. ( on target) + score above target and - score below target. The schools progress 8 is compared to similar schools nationally. The score achieved by the school works in the same way - score,below national average ; + score, above national average and 0 score, in-line with national average.
