Carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas which forms a sort of insulative layer around the earth. It causes short wavelength radiation from the sun to get tapped in earths atmosphere which causes earth to heat up. This effect is called global warming. So to answer your question more carbon dioxide means more global warming and an increased average surface temperature in earth.
