Why are wind speed and direction important for understanding changing weather?
Wind speed and direction will allow us to know where the weather is coming from and where and when it will be in the future.
Assuming a geostrophic approximation you can also find out what the pressure patterns are from the wind direction. This can tell us where the high and low pressure centres are.
