The British pursued a policy of appeasement; whereby they sought to bring the new fascist regimes, such as Germany, into the fold of international politics. This was based on the fact that many people wanted WW1 to be the war to end all wars. The US were largely uninvolved in European politics during this period, they pursued a policy of splendid isolationism in the inter war period.
