A group of girls shared some sweets among themselves. They tried taking 11 sweets each, but found that the last girl had only 6 sweets. How many sweets were there altogether?
If there were 6 girls who wanted 11 sweets each there should be 11 x 6 (66) sweets. However in our case there were 5 girls who actually got 11 sweets each and 1 who got 6 sweets. (11 x 5) + (1 x 6) = (55) + (6) = 61 sweets altogether
