# For a particular type of plant 25% have blue flowers. A garden center sells these plants in trays of 15 plants of mixed colours. A tray is selected at random. Find the probability that the number of blue flowers in this tray is: exactly 4?

This is a standard binomial question. Let your probability be p=0.25 (25%), n = 15 (no. trials) and your x = 4. Now using the binomial formula, P = (15C4) x (0.25)^4 x (1-0.25)^15-4 P = (15C4) x (0.25)^4 x (0.75)^11 This gives an answer of P=0.2252 to 4d.p. You can also do this on a calculator using the pd function, letting n = 15, p = 0.25 and x = 4. Hope this helps :) Keely Sullivan
