Hey Julia Interesting topic and question. Solid samples cannot be introduced to the system directly, without specific equipment, and must first be dissolved and digested. One of the most common methods is acid digestion by heating the sample in hot acids, or a mixture of hot acids, which causes dissolution of the sample.
