Hey there 🙂 Great question! It depends exactly what you want to do. If you would like to be a counsellor, you need to do a psychology degree or complete a registered course, such as a psychology conversion or a BCPC training course. That would make you certified to practice counselling. It can take up to 6 years study with many hours of volunteer counseling hours - but if it’s something you love and are passionate about, it can be really rewarding! There’s also a real need for counsellors who understand what it’s like being LGBTQ+. If you want to be an LGBTQ+ activist - like myself - then you don’t need any particular qualifications, but you do need experience. You can get that by volunteering with local LGBTQ+ groups, getting involved with different campaigns or even starting your own. In my work I’ve given talks in schools and run workshops with young people - it’s not quite as personal as counselling, but you can still give young queer and trans people support, and inspire them to love themselves and change the world! I hope that answers your question 🙂
