This is my eighth academic year as a tutor. I have my MA in English from the University of Cambridge, have worked as an assistant examiner for CIE and maintain my professional skills through my tutoring practice, examiner training and regular participation in various other courses. Recently, my professional development has included further English Language training from The British Council, two study days at The Globe Theatre (Hamlet and Othello) and a training day with CIE for Key Stage 5. I have worked with families in their homes, overseas, and with pupils at an academically selective school in West London. I have significant experience of working with pupils with additional needs, especially those who are academically able, as well as with pupils for whom English is not their first language. I specialise in tutoring English Language and Literature at GCSE and A Level, but also work with younger pupils. In addition, I support essay writing in other subjects and provide university entrance and job application support to young people, as well as commercial writing and research services to business people. Oxford University graduate, BA History (high 2.i). Before that, 4 A*s at A-level and 11 A*s at GCSE from my local state school. When I'm not tutoring, I'm practicing at a top City law firm. On top of legal experience, I also did work placements during university at national newspapers, the BBC, and the civil service. My interests are wide. At school, I considered going into medicine - my A-levels were in Maths, Chemistry, History and English Literature. Students facing big decisions at 11, 14, 16 and 18 have my complete sympathy - I still recall how crucial those choices felt, and how important it was to ace those 11+, GCSE and A-level exams. Good, personally-dedicated teaching built my confidence for success and with this in mind, I hope I can, in turn, help you build yours. I tutor History, English, secondary school and university admissions. To date I have helped pupils at GCSE and A level, advised sixth formers applying to Oxford, and proofread personal statements for university applicants. I have also had pastoral experience supporting groups of younger children varying in age from nursery to primary. I have worked for half a year as a school assistant in Germany, and tutored students there for TOEFL and CAE exams - so I welcome requests relating to English as a foreign language, too. I'd be more than happy to consider other enquiries as well, especially about humanities subjects in general. I like to have a sense of where a student is going before taking them on, so please do send me a message to discuss you or your child's needs, together with any questions you might have. I will try to answer within a couple of hours. Thank you for taking the time to look at my profile. I hope to have the pleasure of hearing from you.

Hi! My name is Sohini, a friendly and helpful tutor currently studying Maths at the LSE because of how much I love the subject and teaching it, so I would say that I major in Maths. Nevertheless, I have always enjoyed learning and teaching languages to others, in particular Spanish, French and Bengali. To quickly describe myself, I am 21-years old and have worked as a tutor for approximately 5 years now. From my experiences, I have picked up new and creative ways to make education as enjoyable and enlightening as possible. For a short time, I did also work as a fundraiser for multiple charities which enhanced my optimism and made me more confident with my abilities. In short, I don't give up. I consistently try to improve the development of my students so that they are satisfied with their quality of education and level of confidence. I have experience working at homes, schools and tutoring centres, and I have mostly worked with those aged between 5 and 17, both while employed and while volunteering. However, I have never limited myself to a particular age when it comes to taking students - learning is for all ages! Finally, I am flexible, both in time and lesson rate, and quick to respond to messages for lessons so feel free to message me, even if you don't see the time slot you want. Last updated: 24/07/18

I chose my GCSE options in year 8 and started them in year 9. It was then I felt like I had to decide what career I want to go in. I knew I enjoyed teaching as I've done a lot mentoring; I also knew that Religious Studies was one of my most favourite subjects. Really, I loved (still do) cooking the most so a career in catering was also something I wanted but then I decided that from my experience it's not the most stable career and I am an academic. My parents suggested I go into law so I focussed on that. I got 18 A* - Cs for GCSE. I got a scholarship into Oxford for a pre-degree law course which I did along side my A-levels. For AS I did German, Philosophy and Ethics, History and English language and literature. The latter 2 subjects I did not do that well in or enjoy as much so I dropped them in A2 and picked up a full A-level in IT. (I was also doing an EPQ but I had a lot of things going on in my personal life so I dropped that because I had a lot of commitments with my family and I was still going to Oxford too). I got a reduced offer to do law at Oxford but I decided I didn't want to do that anymore nor be in that environment again. I chose to do philosophy and R.S. and that's what I am doing now. I took a gap year though after my A-levels and I worked in a school as pupil assistant and mentor (And I've been tutoring since I was 15). Sorry for the essay!

I am a qualified EYFS and KS1 teacher. Having completed my PGCE in Primary Education in 2015, I have been able to teach in two different boroughs. In my first year, I taught in the borough of Richmond where I taught a Reception class. Here, I was able to use my skills to bring my class up to the national expectation at the end of the year. I am aware of the national curriculum expectations within this phase. EYFS differs from the KS1 and KS2 Curriculum as it focuses on 7 areas of learning. Here, it is important to gauge how best the child learns. Opportunities within the EYFS environment allow for the class to become independent learners, and I am able to create creative evironments in order for learning to occur. Here, skills in both English and Maths are embedded. The expection with English is that all students must be able to apply their phonics knowledge in order to form a legible sentence. Through the use of song, art, word games and handwriting practice, curriculum expectations will most certainly be met. This is similar with maths, where practical activities have allowed for critical thinking to take place. In my second year of teaching, I taught a Yr 1 class in Newham. Here, I was able to again bring my class up to the national expectation, with accelerated progress in certain subjects. The KS1 Curriculum picks up from the EYFS Curriculum as it expands on Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar within Years 1 and 2. These are all skills that I have practised with my previous class on a daily basis. Within Year 1 the expectation at the end of the year is to pass the Phonics Screening which all my class were able to do. With maths, the aim is to develop reasoning skills as well mental arithmetic. I tutor Early Yearโ€™s, KS1 and KS2. I also have high expectations and believe students need to be taught the skills to become resilient learners.
