What is the definition of colloquial language?

Colloquial language is how we often speak in conversation, rather than formal language. For example speaking colloquially involves using slang etc. Hope this makes sense!

He was mowing the lawn... What are the verbs in this sentence?

Hi Max, A verb is a ‘doing word’ so it is usually an action. In this case it would be ‘mowing’. Hope this helps :)

Difference between antonyms and antithesis?

Hi Liam, The difference is minor and can be hard to explain but I’ll do my best. An antonym is the opposite meaning of a word. For example, big/small. Antithesis is the opposite of a word flat out. For example, love/hate. Hope this makes sense!

Is the following sentence missing semicolons or commas? If so, where?:Mark played the viola professionally for many years and he now conducts a community orchestra?

Because of the ‘and’ this sentence doesn’t need a semi colon. However if there wasn’t an ‘and’ there would need to be a semicolon. ‘Mark played the viola professionally for many years; he now conducts a community orchestra’. This would join the two clauses together without using ‘and’.
