Why did the Allies agree that elections would be held in Soviet-occupied territories in Eastern Europe after the war?

Do you think that it was reasonable to conclude from the advance of communism in the late 1940s that communism was winning?

There are a number of arguments both for and against this. It could be argued that ‘communism was winning’ by the late 1940s due to the spread of communism in Europe and also with China becoming communist in 1949. What advance improved communications during World War I?

Advancements in technology played a big role in improving communication during WW1. Increased use of electricity meant that systems such as the telephone, the wireless telegram and morse code could now be used as opposed to previous methods such as carrier pigeons and the use of flags on ships to communicate.
