Medical student at UCL with past teaching experience
Hi! I’m a first year medical student at UCL. I am especially passionate about helping people from state school backgrounds with their medical applications, so I am offering tuition in Biology, Chemistry, Maths and help with applications and interviews. I believe in teaching as a discussion between peers, rather than me just talking at a student. I find that many difficulties are down to overcomplicated explanations or a few simple misconceptions, so when I teach I ensure I gain an accurate understanding of students’ past teaching, concerns and questions. When in school, I tutored girls in the years below hoping to get top grades in their Maths GCSE, and ran classes for high-achieving students in English Language and Literature. Currently, I teach regularly with StreetDoctors, a charity which teaches about the medical and social consequences of youth violence and emergency first-aid to young people aged 11-25. In my spare time, I play netball (badly!) for the medical school and I’m in the wilderness medicine and SCUBA societies.
First Year Med Student at Notts | many years experience as a Tutor :)
First Year Med Student. Here to help! Tutoring is one of my passions and I truly believe that with the right mentor a student's academic ability can improve immensely. Being a student myself, I think I have been able to grasp on what can make certain subjects daunting for kids, and I hope I can use my experiences to be beneficial to everyone. My style of tutoring will also include teaching the students about time management, key revision skills and exam techniques along with the core content of the subject. As I believe that to achieve your maximum potential in academics it is 60% knowledge, 25% exam/revision techniques and 15% time management. I am a first year medical student currently studying at the University of Nottingham and thus my schedule is quite tight. BUT I will always try to be in everyone's best interest. :)
Resourceful tutor in physical, applied and social sciences at Imperial College.
I am very friendly but results-oriented. I take keen interest in my students progress and development.
Oxford Medicine and PPE graduate - Expert BMAT/TSA Coach with 5 years Experience
Professional BMAT and TSA Admissions Coach ***BMAT and TSA Enquiries Only Please*** Hello and welcome to my page! A passionate mathematician turned Doctor-In-Training-And-Philosopher but always a teacher at heart - I am Abdullah - a 5th year medical student at Oxford and PPE graduate- and it would be a pleasure to help you with your learning and exams. I am a professional academic coach - over the summer I dedicate my time to coaching students one-one for the BMAT and TSA exams and medical admissions to the top UK medical schools. My journey through academia has seen my sit numerous admissions tests including the UCAT, for which I scored in the top 2%, and the BMAT for which I scored in the top 1.5% for Section 1 and Section 2. Over the past five years I`ve coached numerous students through both the BMAT and TSA and also led preparation courses for high-profile admissions companies. Please don`t waste a penny on big company prep courses - when working with these companies, I was shocked at their extortion and disappointed at the poor quality of their courses. Over these years, I`ve thought long and hard about how best to coach students for these exams and have decided to put it all together into my own bespoke teaching courses. My coaching covers an in-depth analysis of the different question types in the various sections of each exam and teach the necessary theory and technique for each question type. Although many say that admissions tests are aptitude tests and therefore cannot be prepared for - this is simply not true as there is a body of theory and technique which can be taught and without which it can be difficult to succeed. At any rate, try telling that to the parents who are forking out fortunes on tutors and prep courses for their children! Over the years, I have developed my own distinct style of tutoring, centring on my own reconstructions of the teaching materials and my charismatic and engaging approach. I have put a lot of thought and research into how to tutor the BMAT and TSA. I have designed my own tutorials to thoroughly cover every aspect of the exams - not simply replicated advice available in the published guidebooks but drawing on my own insights. These include theory, strategies and techniques as well as ample practice. In addition to teaching during the lessons, I also go the extra mile to help my students keep a regular practice routine which is the key to success in admissions test. In my experience, this sense of shared responsibility motivates students to keep on track with their practice which is ultimately what leads to improved scores – one-one tuition is not sufficient to produce good results. I take professionalism, reliability, and customer care as virtues just as importantly as I take the quality of my teaching – giving 100% quality to each student session. I deliver my teaching with enthusiasm, charisma and energy – my teaching has been described as `rigorous yet colourful!` Lastly, if you are not satisfied with the quality of my teaching then I don`t expect you to pay. I offer a 100% money back guarantee on the first lesson booked with me. He is a first rate educator, with the ability to make material crystal clear, achieved only through true understanding and mastery of a subject! Abdullah has the ability to elucidate content and provide clarity, solidity, and extension which aren’t accomplished in the classroom. If you want to achieve material progress, there is no other tutor! 14/07/2020 Mrs Katherine (Student’s Mother) Sitting the BMAT is no easy feat, but Abdullah's attentive guidance provided me with the reassurance and confidence I needed to give it my best shot. The advice he gave allowed me to improve massively; his tips for Section 1 helped me learn about the methodology behind answering the questions, and his thorough marking and analysis of my Section 3 essays proved invaluable on exam day. I can't thank him enough for his punctuality, flexibility and understanding in addressing all of my concerns, and would recommend him to anyone planning to sit the BMAT. 08/11/2020 Mr Ronan (BMAT Tutee) I strongly recommend Abdullah to anyone who is looking to take the UCAT/BMAT, and applying to medical school in general. Abdullah helped me so much with my UCAT preparation, and helped me get a score of 700+, which I more than happy with. He worked really hard to thoroughly teach me the techniques for each section specifically. The lessons are easy to understand, and he didn`t stop until I was completely confident with each type of question. If it wasn`t for Abdullah, I definitely wouldn`t have done so well! Thank you! 29/08/2020 Miss Leenah (UCAT Tutee) A truly amazing tutor! Abdullah is very kind, knowledgeable and has a level of commitment I`ve never seen in anyone else. He taught us techniques to enhance our efficiency in the BMAT, and made sure that we all had an excellent understanding before moving onto the next topic. Overall, a fantastic experience, and I really appreciate the time and effort Abdullah put in to ensure that my BMAT score was the best it could be! He is one of the finest tutors I`ve ever worked with and he has my unreserved recommendation. 02/11/2020 Mr Abith (BMAT Tutee) This tutor not only helped me acquire the correct technique to tackle my UCAT exam, but through their support and expertise, they made my exam preparation a lot less stressful (and somewhat fun!). I knew I could go to them for help with my practice when I asked for it. A very professional and organised tutor, who gave informative and well-structured tutorials. I`m very happy that I chose you as my UCAT tutor, thank you so much! :) 10/08/2020 Miss Morgan (UCAT Tutee) Abdullah is a tutor who knows the topics he teaches very well, and is able to explain these in a way that helps you understand it quickly. He is very patient in his teaching style and always ensures that everyone understands the topic. He focuses on building a core understanding which I found to be very helpful for the BMAT. I would definitely recommend his tutoring 07/11/2020 Mr Adam (BMAT Tutee) Abdullah has all the qualities of an outstanding tutor - expert, adaptable, patient, considerate, supportive and passionate about the subject. He understood our daughter`s needs perfectly, tailoring a short course to her specific requirements and focusing on methodology and technique to deliver enhanced performance. Thank you, Abdullah! 16/08/2020 Mr David (Father of UCAT Tutee) Please contact me directly and I am happy to put you in contact with any of my current/past tutees. BMAT Tuition Approach ****************************** In addition to having scored in the top 1.5% for Section 1 and Section 2 myself, I have put a lot of hard-run research into my BMAT tuition over the past five years. I have prepared tutorials covering every aspect of the test which include techniques and strategies for each question type in each section, as well as high-yield reviews of background theory for the different sections. This includes Critical Thinking for Section 1 as well as high-yield reviews for Biology, Chemistry and Physics focussing on how you need to approach these subjects in the context of an admissions test(which is different from your GCSEs/A-Levels). We also cover the essay section and my background in Philosophy is key to how I teach my students to write their essays. For Section 1, I ensure my student is comfortable with the fundamentals of critical thinking and understands clearly what the different questions are asking for (e.g. conclusions, assumptions, flaws etc). I also go through common question types for the problem-solving component of Section 1 including Venn Diagrams, Probability Questions and Spatial Pattern Questions as examples. For Section 2, my experience has shown me that a clear understanding of the most popular topics for Biology (Genetics, Homeostasis, Cells etc), Chemistry (Reaction Types, Quantitative Chemistry, Equilibrium, Kinetics etc) and Physics ( Mechanics, Circuits, Radioactivity, Waves etc) can often be lacking due to poor teaching at GCSE level. My teaching is highly focussed on how the questions are asked in the BMAT and not a general review of GCSE Science. For Section 3, my background writing academic Philosophy essays is the basis for how I teach students to write BMAT essays. Not in terms of the content, but in terms of the structure and aims of the essay the desirable virtues are the same. I teach students the importance of clarity, persuasiveness, argumentation and style as well as common essay errors to avoid. If my student would like, I have prepared weekly work sheets with exam style questions to provide more practice and solidify the content we cover in sessions. These are exam-style questions, students find these weekly assignments helpful in maintaining regular practice and solidifying the exam techniques we discuss. In the end, we often compile “cheat sheets” to summarise some of the techniques we’ve practiced together. It is important to realise that tutoring is not sufficient for success – practice is crucial and I always help my students set up a regular practice timetable and motivate them to adhere to it.
Medical Doctor (MBBS), Biomedical Science (1st class honours), Pharmacy assistant (NPA qualification), previous tutoring experience (The Study Spot, Deen Tutors, private one-to one-tutoring), previous medical school interviewer, A levels (Maths, Biology, Chemistry), AS level (Electronics), GCSEs (11 total with mostly A* and A’s). Overall, my strong suits are in the STEM field, Maths, English and Science. I would be happy to help with medical school content (OSCE practice, medicine, surgery, specialties, prescribing exam), but I am also happy to take on suggestions and be flexible with what is taught. I am also happy to help those preparing to apply to medical school (interviews, personal statements, transfer programme at St Georges Medical School, applying as a graduate) or to the NHS foundation program (SJT). Really enjoy teaching! If I didn’t take the medical route I probably would have become a teacher. Currently charging £25/ph for lessons, but won’t be like this for long!
