Mandarin Tutor Enthusiastic & Approachable!

Hello! I’m Jiaqi, a master student studying Arts Management at Manchester. I received my BA degree in English Literature and American Studies at the University of Manchester and I also hold a BA degree in English Language and Literature at Zhejiang University, a top-3 University in China. I’m a native Mandarin speaker and proficient in English. I'm very enthusiastic about teaching Mandarin and sharing Chinese culture. I have rich experience in tutoring both in China and the UK, and I believe my academic background and former work experience have fully equipped me with relevant skills. My course English Literature and American Studies has developed not only my proficient English language skills but also good understanding and critical thinking skills, which have enabled me to fully comprehend different people in various situations, and quickly generate appropriate response and resolutions. I have been a journalist and senior editor for the News Department at Zhejiang University in China for 2 years, reporting news and interviewing people, updating university news on the University official website and the WeChat official account platform. As a trans-interpreter intern at the Global Times News Press for 6 months, I highly valued audiences’ feedback and improved my translation to a better-presented version to maximumly improve information delivery and audiences’ reading experience. In January 2017, I successfully joined BBC Over To You Programme at BBC Radio Manchester through competitive interviews. Having received three professional training sessions delivered by BBC senior journalists, I started to prepare my programme “Chinese in Manchester”, regularly meeting senior BBC staff to discuss it. Working in a reporting team, I went to Chinatown to interview Chinese people from all walks of life about their experience in Manchester and successfully finished my report. Overall, I'm confident that I will be a great teacher!
