English, Maths, Humanities | IELTS | Education MA | Experienced and friendly
I am an enthusiastic tutor who can make learning fun and relevant. I aim to make ideas clear to the student, in order that they can use them fluidly and flexibly, and to encourage genuine understanding. I enjoy teaching and believe learning starts with the learner, adapting ideas and course content to meet their interests and needs. I give children, young people, and adults thorough explanations of concepts and lots of practice to consolidate their learning. I can also teach English as a Foreign Language and Functional Maths to adults. I have experience working with alternative education programmes in England and am widely versed in non-hierarchical learning which involves both student and teacher in consideration of a common object. I have worked with adults for their IELTS exam, students for their A-levels and their GCSE across many educational backgrounds and needs including SEN. Collectively, with TutorFair, Scoodle, Titanium Tutors, I have been a tutor for over 350 hours. Currently, I am an Education student at the UCL IOE, having studied English at Queen Mary, University of London (1.1) before this. Here, I have learned several new qualities in research, teaching and learning.
I’m passionate about teaching + giving support to those who may need extra help.

Experienced Masters Level Tutor keen to help new students!
I have tutored in Literature, Language, Drama and History for three years now from Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 4 respectively. Furthermore, being employed in a school, I am constantly picking up resources and techniques in order to get the best out of students. I have raised my students by three grades in the past by my trustworthy style: this consists of modelling answers, using memory retrieval techniques such as dual coding and creating answers together within the sessions. I specialise in Shakespeare in particular which is always a tricky thing to tackle when students reach GCSE, but I have taught children as young as 8 to start deciphering that language!
Seasoned qualified teacher and tutor.
Deputy head of English department Head of KS4 PhD, LLM, LLB, PGCE, QTS, MCCT I consistently get outstanding progress and attainment from my students across English lit and English language
‘Education is not the learning of facts, but the training of the mind to think.’
I have a very unique way of teaching and that is ‘the training of the mind to think’. As I specialise in English Literature and language, ‘training the mind to think’ is crucial and allows students to think outside the box, exploring avenues that may have never been explored before. This is seen in my success rates of tutoring throughout the years, in subjects such as English literature and language, Chemistry and Biology. I have improved GCSE students grades by 2-3 grades every year round. Being the first cohort doing the new 9-1 GCSE examinations, I achieved a grade 9 for both English literature and language. This means that I have a first hand experience on what the exams are like, what examiners are looking for, how to handle workload and memorise poems and quotes from books, and how to achieve great results. In order to develop English skills, I frequently encourage asking questions, with this, lessons do not become a one way street and the student is encouraged to probe away in order to reach a conclusion for themselves. I try to teach a student the qualities of, and then to prioritise deduction and reasoning, something I have found is becoming ever more important in current exams. I strive to build confidence in students by securing knowledge and understanding and then frequently applying this to new scenarios, including independent work designed for strong consolidation. This of course includes inspiring an interest in the subject at hand, attempting to help the student recognise how truly fun learning such useful subjects can be, especially in noticing how they relate to daily life.
I’m a science PhD student at Cambridge committed to helping your academic goals
Hi I'm Tessa! I'm currently studying for my PhD at Cambridge in an interdisciplinary biosciences programme. I previously completed my undergrad at UCL in Natural Sciences, specialising in Physics and Molecular and Cell Biology for which I got a First. I know firsthand how difficult science subjects can be to master, but I am really passionate about teaching these subjects and sharing my interest. I hope to help you achieve your goals and enjoy learning as much as possible along the way. Having been through the applications process a few times myself, I am also keen to share how to successfully write a personal statement and prepare for interviews. I came from an international school with a very low Oxbridge acceptance rate, but there are definitely common factors that you can incorporate into your application to put your best foot forward at such competitive universities. I also studied Higher Level English Literature in the IB programme in school, and continue studying literature as a hobby to this day. I taught students aged 4-16 English as a second language at a private tutoring centre in Hong Kong. This allowed me to gain a lot of experience with a wide range of ages and has taught me how to change my methods and explanations to best suit the student in any situation. I have been a tutor in the UK for over three years, and have experience in both online tutoring and in person.
Helping students reach their potential
I am currently living in London. I have studied up until A-Levels and have been working in the education sector for the past 5 years. I am a qualified Teaching Assistant and have worked in a school through Early Years to Year 6. I have worked in an Education Centre for many years, tutoring students between the age of 5-11. I specify in teaching Year 2 and Year 6 SATs, as well as 11+ Entrance exams. I have also been doing private tutoring for 1 to 1 students. I believe every tutor has their own style when it comes to teaching, therefore I try to embed my own style of teaching to make the sessions fun and effective for students. Similarly, each child has their own preference with learning, hence why I would adapt my teaching in accordance to how they like, as this will make the sessions more enjoyable for them. During my classes, I try to set homework after every lesson, as this ensures my students are constantly going over what they have learnt - I am a big believer of children learning through repetition. I always focus on one topic each lesson and will not move the child onto a different topic until they have understood what they have learnt. One to one tuition gives my students the time to go through their difficulties in depth, which is why I would spend as much time on their weaknesses and help them turn it into strengths.
