PEAL stands for Point, Evidence, Analysis, Link.

Point - You must firstly establish the main idea you are looking to discuss.

Evidence - Here you are looking to identify any words / phrases / imagery or other linguistic technique in the sentence which supports your ‘point’.

Analysis - You must then explain how these words / phrases / imagery or other linguistic technique support the ‘point’. For example, the word might convey a certain emotion and therefore make the reader think a certain way about the person or place being described.

Link - Conclude by linking back to the original point and explaining how the the feelings or attitudes generated reflect the idea.

How do you write a perfect PEAL paragraph for gcse

As this is an assignment for class I would suggest using ‘male’ and ‘female’ - these terms are used pretty frequently and should not be considered too formal.

For english I’m writing a speech to deliver to my classmates about body image. Should I say male and female opposed to guy and girl or is that too formal?

Researching the context behind the poems and the poets can be useful when trying to make comparisons. 

For example, Ted Hughes and Sylvia Plath were two famous poets of the 20th century who were married. Their respective collections of poetry provide alternative insights into their troubled relationship and can therefore make for an interesting point of comparison between their works.

Form is an easy, effective and comparable aspect of poetry. One poem may use little punctuation and a lot of enjambment, conveying a sense of confusion and chaos, whereas another could use caesura, plenty of punctuation and be monosyllabic to symbolise control and structure.

Use of techniques is another way of comparing poems. One poem may employ plenty of sibilance (soft ‘s’ alliteration) to create a dream-like effect, while another may use many similes and metaphors for the same effect. This is important to note - poems can use different techniques but their effects can be similar.
