At Google, and other tech companies I’ve worked at, I met software engineers (SWEs) with backgrounds from physics and maths all way to drama and French That being said, most software engineers had degrees in computer science (CS).

If you want to work as a SWE, you don’t need a degree in CS. However, there are a lot of CS fundamentals that you will need to  know to get a job as a SWE.

So there’s a lot of self-learning involved, if you want to work as a SWE at a tech company like Google.

It’s worth noting that there are still companies who will require the degree (mostly old fashioned companies).

Can you get a job at a technology company, such as google, without an engineering degree?

Hi Kiara, by definition a prism is three-dimensional.

A prism is a type of 3D shape with flat sides. It has at least two ends that are the same shape and size. Cubes and cuboids are good examples.

The general technique to find the area, is to calculate the area of all of the faces of the prism seperately and then add them up.

So for a cuboid (a shape with 6 sides), we would add the areas for the 2 square faces to the areas of the other 4 rectangular faces.

I assume by theta, you mean x.

Lets convert those degrees to radians first:
20degrees -> pi / 9 radians
180degrees -> pi radians

4(3^(1/2))sin(3x + pi/9) = 4cos(3x + pi/9) -> divide both by cos(3x + pi/9)

4(3^(1/2))tan(3x + pi/9) = 4 -> divide both by 4

(3^(1/2))tan(3x + pi/9) = 1 -> divide by root 3

tan(3x + pi/9) = 1 / (3^(1/2)) -> take inverse tan of both

3x + pi/9 = tan-1(1 / (3^(1/2))) -> simplify

3x + pi/9 = pi/6 + pi*n-> subtract pi/9 from both sides

3x = pi / 18 + pi*n -> divide by 3

x = pi / 54 + (pi*n / 3)

Now if we substitute values of n, as long as the result of x is in the domain 0 < x < pi, then that is a valid solution.

if n = 0, x = pi/54
if n = 1, x = pi/54 + pi/3
if n = 2, x = pi/54 + 2pi/3

Those are the only three possible solutions, all others are outside of the domain.

Tensile stress is the stress state caused by an applied load that tends to elongate the material in the axis of the applied load, or in other words, the stress caused by pulling the material. The strength of structures of equal cross-sectional area loaded in tension is independent of the shape of the cross section. Materials loaded in tension are susceptible to stress concentrations such as material defects or abrupt changes in geometry. However, materials exhibiting ductile behaviour (most metals for example) can tolerate some defects, while brittle materials (such as ceramics) can fail well below their ultimate material strength.

Tensile stress is the stress state leading to expansion; that is, the tensile stress may be increased until the reach of tensile strength, namely the limit state of stress.

Tensile stress causes stress corrosion cracking (SCC), which is the combined influence of tensile stress and a corrosive environment. The required tensile stresses may be in the form of directly applied stresses or in the form of residual stresses. 

One method of controlling stress corrosion is to eliminate stress, or at least reduce it below the threshold stress for SCC. Residual stresses can be relieved by stress-relief annealing, and this is widely used for carbon steels.

What is meant by the term tensile stress when applied to materials used in vehicle manufacture and construction?

When a system has reached a dynamic equilibrium at a given concentration of reactants/products, temperature, pressure and volume, then a change in any of those factors will change the rate of the reaction in the direction which moves the reaction to a new equilibrium. I.e. the RoR will change to counteract changes in the system.

For example, given the following reaction at equilibrium: 
A + B <=> C

If I increase the concentration of reactants A and B, then the rate of the forward reaction will increase. This happens because there more are molecules of A and B relative to molecule C, favouring the forward reaction (as more opportunities for successful collisions between A and B). So the forward rate increases.

Another example, with the same formula. Let's assume we know that the forward reaction is exothermic. If we increase the temperature of the system, it will favour the direction which decreases the temperature, i.e. the backward reaction will be favoured. So, by Le Chatelier's Principle, the backward reaction rate increases.

If we’re looking for the lowerbound of pi, the circumference C would have to be at its smallest and the diameter D would have to be at its highest. For the upper bound it would be the other way around.

So for the lower bound:

405mm (3 s.f.) => 404.5 (lowest possible)
130mm (2 s.f.) => 134.499... (highest possible)

lower bound pi = 3.007 (3d.p)

So for the higher bound:

405mm (3 s.f.) => 405.4999… (highest possible)
130mm (2 s.f.) => 125.0 (lowest possible)

Work ahead during those 40 hours." I followed his advice to the letter. I never had to pull an all-nighter. I didn't have to cram for exams. I never got very stressed, despite attending a competitive university and completing a difficult degree.
