Niamh O'Connor

Online lessons

French tutor and current postgraduate student here to help! 🇫🇷👩🏻‍🏫

Hey! I'm Niamh. I recently graduated in French and Italian from the University of St Andrews, and I'm currently studying for my Masters in Translation Studies at the University of Glasgow. I'm really confident in my foreign language skills - but I am, of course, still a native English speaker. This means I know all the areas where it's easy to trip up, and how to get past them. After all, I've been there myself! I find it really important with language learning to make sure the basics are as solid as they can be, since racing ahead and trying to simply memorise something for an exam can get really confusing really quickly if you don't have the fundamentals down. My lessons will make sure the students truly understand everything they have learnt so far and prepare them for progressing in their language. I am happy to offer help with all the key areas of reading, writing, listening and speaking. I can help with classwork, homework and preparation for exams. Questions from the student are encouraged as they allow us to work on areas where they might need a bit more guidance. My lessons will always be a collaboration between me and the student – guiding them towards the solution and finding ways of explaining the grammar and structure of the language so it's easier for them to understand, never just giving the answer. I've been learning French since I was 8 years old, and I've definitely picked up some tips and tricks along the way. Get in touch so I can share them with you!
