Passionate tutor and undergraduate at Imperial College London

Hello Reader! I'm a 23 year-old Physics graduate from Imperial College London with 500+ hours of experience teaching secondary school Maths and Physics. Having recently(ish!) been at school myself iโ€™m well aware of the challenges students typically face both in learning new material and writing exams, both of which are vital but very different skills. My teaching style is open and relaxed with the aim of creating an atmosphere where no question is seen as too silly or trivial. From my own experiences at school and when tutoring, I believe that this is one of the biggest mental hurdles students face when learning, especially in a large classroom environment, so i place great emphasis on tackling this early on. My teaching methods are obviously flexible depending on the individual and have recently been adapted to suit a purely online learning format given the current global health situation. That being said i have found that at good first step to take when starting with a new student is to work through a syllabus topic, identifying and resolving misconceptions the student has whilst providing motivation for why the student is learning the material in the first place. Schools and exam boards are often lapse, particularly with more abstract concepts in Maths and Physics, in providing practical examples of how the content students learn is used in real life! Once weโ€™ve worked through a course topic we re-enforce whatโ€™s been learnt with past exam questions, which also serves to aid and assist exam technique and maximising grades. During this strange period i hope to be able to put your sonโ€™s/daughterโ€™s time to good use.Though obviously brought about in unfortunate circumstances, this time is a unique opportunity to polish and clear up topics your son/daughter struggled with in school, putting them in the best possible position for when they return. I hope to hear from you soon! Ben

Approachable Tutor in Science and Maths

I have been a mentor for other students throughout university so I have dealt with the stresses and demands that come with education. Henceforth, I want to alleviate these pressures by helping students to become more confident in their own abilities and support them during their education. I am very enthusiastic with teaching and have a patient approach to learning. I believe that good teaching requires good communication from both parties, thus my students can expect effective communication during tutoring sessions and consistent updates outside of tutoring hours. Additionally, I like to encourage my all my students to improve and develop important skills such as independent studying and critical thinking that will be crucial at higher level education and future job prospects. As a medical student, I have been through the rigorous selection process of medical schools. Therefore, I am able to give valuable advice regarding UKCAT, Personal Statements and Interviews (Panel or MMI) for aspiring medical students. As well as UCAS related university advice for students who are looking at higher education. Having done a BSc has enabled me to explore further opportunities in higher education where I was successful in publishing my dissertation on a scientific journal (http://erc.endocrinology-journals.org/content/25/7/705.abstract). Therefore, I am confident that I can also support students in areas that require essay writing and dissertation editing. I look forward to hearing from you and relish at the prospect of fulfilling a rewarding tutoring experience. Thomas

Ashley M.

Resourceful piano tutor and undergraduate at Royal College of Music

I'm Ash, a classically trained pianist and cellist. I graduated in 2010 but have been teaching privately since 2004. I also hold a Licentiate Diploma from Trinity College London and the ABRSM Certificate for Music Educators. I specialise in piano and music theory tuition and teach for exam preparation, performance and aural training - but, we can also learn just for fun!!! I tend to use the world renowned ABRSM or TCL exam boards for external verification and have a 100% pass rate. i am happy to enter students for exams from Prep Test through to the advanced diplomas. I generally take on students from age 6+ - the current age range of my students is 6-86!! I prefer young students to keep a regular weekly slot but more mature students may attend lessons according to their own schedules. Whether a younger or more mature student, I aim to make music lessons accessible and approachable and make endeavour to make all lessons fun. As a practicing freelance musician I also bring a wealth of professional experience to the table, providing all my students with a valuable hands-on insight into the music industry. No student is ever identical and I therefore tailor lessons accordingly. I am an experienced SEN practitioner and will adjust my teaching to suit any client with any specific educational needs. Above and beyond, I strongly believe that music is a gift we need to impart on our younger generations in order to keep it alive. So, what's the harm in getting in touch, eh?!
