substitute 3 in the place of n 

( 5 x 3) - 2 = 13 

The third term is 13 

5n-2 find the 3rd term

(1x1) + 3 = 4

(2x2) + 3 = 7 

(3x3) + 3 = 12

so you start with the first term - therefore n=1 

(1x2) +3 = 5 

Then you repeat with substituting in 2 & 3 for the second and third terms 

(2x2) + 3 = 7
