The perimeter is the distance around the outside of a shape. To work out the perimeter of a shape you need to know the lengths of all of the sides of the shape and then add them together. This will give you the perimeter of the shape.

The units of perimeter are the same as the units of the sides/edges/radius of the shape (e.g. if a circle has a radius of x cm, it has a circumference of y cm).
